skymobile - the 麒麟 pendant search

i've been searching for some way to "personalize" the skymobile.

given her recent history, i wanted to get something like a protector-cum-watcher-over pendant of sorts for the skymobile...and i figured that the most personal i could go with this idea was to get a 骐麟 (or 麒麟 - qi2 lin2) pendant for my beloved.

for those of you who are not familiar with the term "qi lin", please refer to this and this.

and for those of you who are not familiar with why this is personal to me, "骐" is the "chi" in my chinese name. (moby sky is just a writer's name for your info...the history of which is somewhere in my archives which i cannot be bothered to link)

so anyway, the qi lin's got a head of a dragon and a body of a lion (in most accounts at least)...and, as you can see below, he's not much of a looker...





but come on, neither am i...so what better fit right?! =)


the thing is...just as mystical as they come, qi lins are almost impossible to find in pendant form!!! the one or two i've seen in feng shui shops are made of jade that's badly carved...much worse than the above-pictures of them...

does anyone know where i can find a nice looking qi lin pendant? please let me know...

the skymobile would be very grateful. =)

skymobile - spa treatment

the skymobile has been undergoing a lot of stress recently...

and you know how girls are when they can't handle the pressure...all grumpy and cranky...with you eventually being burdened with their grief (no lah, i'm not making any references to my boss...none at all...zip...).

so anyway, i decided to indulge the skymobile today with a little spa treatment...









a little waxing here...



a little blowing there...



along with a good rubdown...



purrrrrr.... =)))

they even cleaned her rims real nice! well done...



the folks at the shell car wash along ang mo kio avenue 8 really know how to pamper my girl...so much so that i told them to keep the change from the $10 bill...ok lah, not say big $$$ lah...but come on...how many of you actually tip 66.67% of the bill...

the skymobile's beaming now... =)


(now all i gotta do is to get that cranky lock fixed tomorrow...)

love again?

it's wonderous what a little makeover can do for your loved one(s).

change a screw here, add on a moulding there, fix the power windows all round...and voila, you can love your loved one(s) once again. =)

i can't wait to start roaring again...albeit softer (and slower) this time round...

grumbly skymobile

the skymobile's been kinda grumbly as of late. i haven't been testing her limits recently...i've been trying to stay within the 2500rpm line cuz the petrol prices have gone up.

but while we haven't been zipping around all that much, we've been going further than usual on a full tank...a full 500km in fact (ok lah, i lose to all you toyota corollas out there, but i still love my skymobile)...and i've been enjoying the scenery a lot more these days too. hehe.

i guess speed isn't all it's propped up to be...technique is important too, huh? but don't you dare cut into my lane and try anything funny...i'm fierce but the skymobile will tear you up in an instant...ask the taxi driver just now. be forewarned. roar!!!

conversations with skymobile

sometimes when i'm driving alone with skymobile, we'll have conversations...

moby: why am i such a loser?
sky: don't know why...
moby: hmm...what should i do?
sky: come away with me in the night...come away with me and i'll write you a song.
moby: haha...what would you write about?
sky: how my heart is drenched in wine, but you'll be on my mind...forever...
moby: wow...very romantic...
sky: out across the endless sea, i would die in ecstasy...but i'll be a bag of bones, driving down the road alone...
moby: sigh...thanks...it's been a long day...
sky: with no reprise...the sun will rise...the long day is over...
moby: i love you. =)

angel eyes

i told skymobile that i'd give her a surprise for our first month anniversary...

so being the forgetful idiot that i am, the 14th of april came and passed...last saturday to be exact. so in order to make up to skymobile, not only did i bring her for a spa package at zen auto in kaki bukit, but i also gave her some new eyeliner as a form of apology...

skymobile was so happy after the treatment that her eyes lit up brighter than ever...



fyi, the process is called "getting angel eyes for your bmw"...check with your local spas for more details.



she sounds much better after the spa too...she was kinda coughing before, but now, i can hear the purr back in her voice again. =)))

ok...now i have to save up for our second month anniversary present already...sigh...some chics are just damn high maintenance lah. but i seriously don't mind spending on this one...cuz at least she'll get me places. hehe.

windows down

when i'm troubled, i will take the skymobile out and drive around with the windows down. i like the feeling of the wind running through my face...it kinda holds the tears back. and even better if it rains...more dramatic mah.

tonight, i drove windows-down to my alma mater in search of the place where i think i was the most happy...raffles hall in nus. with no worries and the freedom to do what i want, when i want, with whoever i want. at 10 kent ridge crescent, i loved, i cried, i scored, i failed, i won, i lost, i laughed, and i wailed...a place of memories indeed.

i feel better now. at least the wind dried my face...somewhat.

skymobile - visit to the doctor's

i brought the skymobile to the doctor's office yesterday...after her starter went kapoot on sunday...here's the good doctor hard at work:





all better...in fact, the skymobile's much better...what, with a new sparco strut bar and air intake courtesy of emril's em-mobile, the skymobile's feeling even more power now!!!

damn starter

the sun was out...



the skies were blue...



the birds were chirping...



what better day to wash the skymobile?

so moby drives down to the open air car wash area in his estate, takes out all the necessary equipment (pail, cloth, leather cleaner) and proceeds to bathe the skymobile to the best of his ability.

when he finishes an hour and a half later, he lets out a little sigh of content, puts the key into the engine and...and...and nothing. the skymobile would not start. 45 minutes and two phone calls later, the automobile association of singapore's mechanic comes down:



he promptly informs moby that the starter on the skymobile is spoilt. the mechanic manages to restart the car by knocking a bit here and there, but he advises moby to change the starter asap. =|


the skymobile is not feeling well

sigh...oh well. this is part and parcel of any relationship. i just hope she gets better soon for starters...

same direction

last saturday, i went to emril's place to pick up some spare parts for the skymobile that he graciously passed to me.

given that the em-mobile and the skymobile were most probably from the same shipment of cars back in november 1992, it was a joyous moment when the two were reunited after 15 years apart...

anyway, in my first move to stamp my mark on the skymobile, i decided to change her steering wheel (which cost me $300 btw):

introducing...the skymobile

as promised, here's the skymobile:



she's called the skymobile cuz she's similar to the em-mobile, but more subtle. she's prettier on the inside, and definitely not as noisy. there are areas to be improved, but of course the em-mobile will show the way.

actually they were supposed to meet on saturday, but em-mobile decided to ditch her to watch formula one racing. the first of many setbacks, but i'm sure that the skymobile will come back in the end!

still veiled

i got my car already. hehe. but i'm still working on the official video to unveil it right here on my blog. so mums the word to those of you who already know what i got...don't spoil the party with your big mouth! yes, i'm talking to you know who you are! haha.

anyway, i'm also having problems naming my car. hmmm...any ideas? heck, i can't even decide if it's a he or a she yet...damn.

"skymobile" was the first thought that came to my mind, but it's too similar to emril and his em-mobile (aka badmobile). but of course, i guess you'd have to see the car first before you can help me to name it...so here's a hint, it's black.

this bloody rain isn't helping much with the filming of it's unveiling. with some help from the skies, hopefully i can get it out by tomorrow.

search skymobile - mitsubishi galant

i test drove a '00 mitsubishi galant today. it felt good...in fact, it felt really good. smooth, powerful, steptronic, blah blah blah...the list goes on...go and google the car if you wanna know the full specs.



(like the picture above, the one i test drove was silver...not ideal, but still ok. not red or yellow or green can already.)

but it's not worth paying $1k a month (the car was quoted at $38k) for the 3 years left on the coe...and some more the salesman damn ah beng one. i don't think he understood half of what i asked him...luckily my colleagues were on hand to translate my "what's the mileage ah?" into it's hokkien counterpart. haha. ok, i exaggerate, but seriously...please go and learn proper england before you start doing sales lah. and so the search for the skymobile continues...

anyway, it's not easy finding a car. i've been surfing sgcarmart.com for nearly two months, but i still haven't found what i'm looking for (i can hear bono singing in my head already)...or maybe i'm just picky...but it is a big investment after all...

any other suggestions for the skymobile? here's the criteria:

budget: maximum $40k (preferably in the $20k - $30k region)
colour: preferably black or white (but can always respray, so doesn't really matter)
coe: left at least 4-5 years
plate number: not too jia lat (no "4444" or "7474")
fuel economy: at least 10km/l
road tax / insurance: as low as possible
leather seats: preferred, but not a must
mileage: less than 20,000km per year of usage
engine: at least got some power one lah

actually i've already lowered my expectations already...it doesn't need to be a sports car (which kinda makes my previous post a little redundant now)...i'll sacrifice for my virgin used car. haha.
